Quick test

Stability

Result Measure

Press a thumbnail onto the surface to be
papered.

Make a cross-shaped incision into existing
coats of paint using a razor knife. Apply adhesive
tape and pull off.

The deeper the impression, the softer the surface.
Caution: The seams may open.
The more paint particles are stuck to the tape, the weaker the contact
between the wall and the wallpaper.
Caution: The wallpaper may come off.

Pre-coat the surface using a base
primer.

Give latex paints a coat of base primer.

Pre-coat the surface with pigmented
base primer.

Absorbency

Result Measure

Moisten the surface with water using a spray gun.

If the water starts to drip off slightly, the surface has poor absorbency.

Caution: The wallpaper may come off.

If the water is absorbed immediately and a dark discoloration appears,

the surface is highly absorbent.

Caution: The seams may open.

Pre-coat the surface with pigmented

base primer.

Pre-coat the surface using thinned

down paste or base primer.
